Android 7 reaches only 2,8% of users

Android 7

Android 7 Nougat is the latest version of Google's operating system. But despite all its novelties, which are quite useful, the reality is that it has not spread as much as we expected.

In fact, it has not even reached 3% of users. A fact that once again confirms the great problem of fragmentation between the different versions of its operating system, one of the main criticisms made of Android.

Android 7 reaches only 2,8% of users

Only 2,8% of users have Android 7

Despite having been launched in October 2016, that is, it has been on the market for about 6 months, Android 7 it has only reached 2,8% of users. And that has been thanks to a push in the last month, since at the beginning of the year the figure barely exceeded 1%.

The most widespread version is currently Android 6, which alone accumulates 31,3% of all smartphones with the operating system.

But there are still many users who have older versions. Thus, 32,5% continue to use one of the different versions of Android Lollipop 5. There are even still many people who have Android 4 on their phones, despite being an abandoned version.

Why is it important to always have the latest version

In addition to enjoying the latest features, the main reason why it is recommended to always have the latest android version is that in each update important security improvements are added. Therefore, a with a later version, it is a more vulnerable mobile.

This means that seeing the data that we have commented previously, in the world there is a large percentage of smartphones unprotected against new attacks, malware and hackers.

A problem also for Google

Fragmentation is also a problem for Google when it comes to "selling" your operating system. The reality right now is that if you have an iPhone, you will always have the latest version of iOS, while if you buy an Android device, the latest version of the system may never reach you. This can be a problem for some users when considering the purchase.

However, given that 83% of smartphones in the world use Android, it does not seem that this is affecting the company too negatively.

What android version do you use? Do you take into account operating system version when buying a new mobile or is it not something you pay too much attention to? We invite you to give us your opinion about it, in our comments section at the end of this article.
