The latest statistics from Omdia Research's mobile phone model market tracking tool indicate that the iPhone 11 was the most popular mobile phone model in the first quarter of 2020.
This means that from the January to March period, the iPhone 11 outperformed the world's best-selling model, the iPhone XR.
Apple's iPhone 11 ($699), 19.5 million units in a single quarter
Not surprisingly, Apple continues its dominant run when it comes to iPhone sales. Previously, the iPhone XR was confirmed to be the best-selling smartphone of 2019, even beating the most affordable Android solutions. Now the position of the iPhone XR has been taken over by the iPhone 11, which is not surprising and we will tell you why.
It has a lower starting price, a much faster A13 Bionic SoC, more cameras, faster Face ID and more, making it the most popular of mobile phones in all its possible variants.
What's even more amazing is the fact that Apple was able to sell 19.5 million units with the COVID-19 pandemic. That's not to say that Android has suffered, but that depends on how you look at things. The second best-selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2020 was the Galaxy A51, which sold around 6,8 million units.
The Redmi Note 8 came in third place, selling 6.6 million units. While these numbers aren't bad by any means, they're nowhere near the popularity of the iPhone 11, and since the iPhone 11 is more expensive than both of these models, it makes the feat all the more remarkable.
Also, with the $399 iPhone SE launching in 2020, which to remind you, features the A13 Bionic just like the iPhone 11, it could outsell the aforementioned model. According to a previous report, iPhone SE sales in 2020 are expected to reach 20 million units.
As for the price of the iPhone SE, current Android users looking for an affordable solution may want to keep that in mind as it effortlessly beats those $1000+ flagships, thanks to its micro A13 Bionic.
