Laptops, the future of Android?

In the presentation that Google carried out last week, in addition to its new Nexus and Chromecast, an unexpected novelty arrived: Google Pixel C, a tablet convertible into a laptop, in the purest Microsoft Surface style, incorporating Android as the operating system.

This is the first time that Google is committed to proposing Android as a desktop system, after its attempts to launch the Chromebook with Chrome OS. But is Android really ready to become an operating system for laptops and/or PCs?

Laptops could be the future of Android

Convergence, the great disadvantage of Android

It is clear that what Google intends with Google Pixel C is to compete directly with the Surface from Microsoft. But it has a great disadvantage with respect to this, and that is that with a Surface we will use the same platform as when we sit at the computer, Windows, something that we will not be able to do with Google devices.

This could have led Google to consider the need for Android out of smartphones and tablets to also reach computers. It is something that, as we have already mentioned, already happens with Microsoft devices, and even Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, although it does not use the same operating system on mobile devices as on computers, it includes many convergences, so Android could be the next one not to be left behind.

Is Android ready to come to PC?

Although it seems that changes are expected in the future, today we could say that Android is neither a system designed for the desktop nor does it aspire to become one. In fact, not even on a combo device like the Google Pixel C, is there a desktop function that resembles the PC.

However, since the launch of material design, it seems that Google's operating system is increasingly prepared for tablet users, and going from tablet to laptop does not seem so complicated. But those responsible for the operating system must get their act together, since even Apple has launched a iOS desktop version for iPad. So we could say that today, Android is not ready for computers, but it should be in the not so distant future.

Would you buy a laptop with Android or do you think this system is better only on smartphones and tablets? We invite you to leave us a comment telling us your opinion, at the bottom of this article.
