Borderless screens: are they really necessary?

borderless screens

If we see the latest designs of the latest Android mobiles, we can see that the borderless displays they are the latest trend, spreading like wildfire, in the new launches of the different global telephone companies.

The reality is that these screens draw quite a lot of attention at first glance, and they are very attractive. But, is it really more comfortable to use a mobile that does not have borders? Well, some users think so and others not so much, let's see.

Are borderless screens beneficial?

The fingerprint reader goes back

Until just a few months ago, the fingerprint reader on the front was the latest innovation. They sold it to us as much more comfortable and much more practical. Now, however, to eliminate the edges, there is no choice but to return it to the back. For those of us who have the fingerprint sensor in front, it is much easier to unlock the mobile, without picking it up. For those who have the sensor behind, you have to take it, to be able to unlock it. Point against then.

And the camera where?

One of the problems with a borderless front is where to place the front camera. In recent years, we have been seeing how the front camera has been improving considerably, so that we can take good quality selfies. And now we find that we have nowhere to put it.

Some mobiles, including the new iPhone X, what they have done is place an island in the middle where the camera is located. With which, in the end, the entire front of the mobile is not used and the advantages of the front screen are lost.

It doesn't take full advantage

Although the front of the screen is quite large, at the top is the status bar where we see the time, battery, etc. Therefore, there is a small part of the screen that we are not going to take advantage of anyway, unless we are watching a video that we use full screen.

In the cases of screens in which the aforementioned island is placed in the middle to place the camera, even less is used, since even videos and games are designed for a square screen and will not take advantage of that space.

Therefore, we can conclude that borderless screens are something very attractive, but really impractical. It is simply a design trend It doesn't add much to the user experience. We will see if in the future this aspect is improved or this design becomes history.

What do you think of borderless screens? We invite you to tell us about it in the comments section at the end of this article.

borders? Yes, but short. Valid especially for the sides.
It is a problem of putting the screen as big as possible with a mobile as small as possible.
But without exaggerating, because there are things that should go on the top and bottom edges.
