The Android-X86 project brings Android 9 Pie to your PC

The Android-x86 project developers have recently released Android 9 Pie based system images for 32-bit and 64-bit PCs along with the LTS 4.19.80 kernel.

The operating system offers a lot of Android goodness along with support for OpenGL ES 3.x hardware acceleration on AMD, Intel, Nvidia and QEMU.

This new update brings OpenGL ES3.0 support via SwiftShader to render software on unsupported GPUs. Secure boot from UEFI and installation to UEFI disk are also supported.

Android-X86 for PC and 32 and 64 bit computers

For the installation process to be perfect, a text based GUI installer is included with this version. Theme support has been added to GRUB-EFI for people who want to customize their GRUB.

You can also run ARM architecture applications via the native bridging mechanism found in:

  1. Configuration
  2. Android-x86 Options
  3. Experimental support for Vulkan for new Intel and AMD GPUs is present in the build which can be enabled via Boot via Advanced Options
  4. Then Vulkan Support.

The construction also brings a new taskbar that acts as an alternative launcher which brings the start menu and recent apps to the top of the screen. It supports freeform window mode.

Finally, you can run selfie apps on a landscape device without rotating the screen.

Other features supported by this latest version of Android-x86 according to the official changelog include multi-touch, audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sensors, camera, Ethernet (DHCP only), mouse integration for virtual machines, external USB drive mount automatic and SD card.
