A user gets a free mobile from Xiaomi, after his Redmi exploded into pieces

Xiaomi sent a new Redmi Note 7 Pro to a user for free, after his previous device exploded and caught fire.

This happened after the user was initially denied a replacement, then asked to pay 50% of the total cost of the mobile phone at a Xiaomi service center. However, things turned bad for the Chinese smartphone maker, after multiple media outlets reported on the matter.

Along with a new phone, Xiaomi has also offered a free backpack to make up for the bag of the man who accidentally caught fire with the device on fire.

A Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro exploded

Vikesh Kumar, who lives on the outskirts of Delhi, India, described the ordeal. Kumar was doing his business when he felt unusual warmth from the Redmi Note 7 Pro in his pocket.

He quickly took out the phone to check the device. Seconds later, Kumar witnessed smoke rising from his phone. He wasted no time and threw the Redmi phone on the ground, which accidentally landed near his backpack. The Redmi Note 7 Pro exploded a few seconds later and caught fire, burning the backpack as well.

According to Kumar, the fire could not be controlled, so he had to use a fire extinguisher. He points out that even a five-second delay in throwing the device would have cost him serious physical injury.

After the whole incident, Kumar reached out to a nearby Xiaomi service center which directly denied him a replacement. On top of that, they even blamed him for the explosion. After much pressure, the service center also asked Kumar to pay at least fifty percent of the total cost of the smartphone.

After all the fuss, Xiaomi released a statement:

The case has been resolved amicably with the client, ensuring full consumer satisfaction. We genuinely care about our consumers and provide all necessary assistance

Interestingly, this is not the first time a Redmi phone has exploded. In August last year, a man reported that his Redmi 6A exploded while it was still in his pocket. Without a doubt, two moments of fireworks by Xiaomi, with a happy ending.
