The free Google Stadia mode will arrive 'in the next few months'

Google launched its cloud gaming service, Google Stadia, with 22 titles as of November 2019. The service costs $9.99 per month and €129 for the Founder's Edition that includes the hardware kit along with a few perks, including three months of access to the service.

A free version was expected to arrive in 2020 and now Google Vice President and Google Stadia Product Manager Phil Harrison has stated that the free version will be available in the coming months.

Harrison mentioned the timeline in an interview.

“The big strategic difference is that in the coming months you will be able to experience Stadia for free,Harrison told Protocol. "With no upfront payment, without having to put a box in your house, you can click and play amazing games right from our data center."

Google announced last month that its goal is to bring up to 120 games to the Stadia lineup to attract more gamers. This also includes 10 exclusive titles, which would hopefully address complaints about the lack of games in the current catalogue.

While Stadia is currently limited to Pixel devices, the software giant is expected to officially expand Stadia to more Android and iOS devices this year.

“Our goal is to get more compatible devices next year. I really want to have the Stadia game on all mobile devices, on Android and iOS at some point. But it is a difficult technical challenge and it will take time."

Stadia Product Director Andrey Doronichev said in a Reddit post.
