Twitter starts testing audio tweets on iOS, what about Android?

As Twitter continues to grow as an essential platform for real-time conversations, the company is adding new ways to share your thoughts and opinions. Now, Twitter is testing audio tweets with iOS users.

Twitter starts testing audio tweets on iOS, what about Android?

Yes, audio tweets where you can record a message and share it with your followers.

“Sometimes 280 characters just aren't enough and nuances of conversation get lost in translation. Starting today, we're testing a new feature that will add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter: your own voice." says the official blog post.

Things you couldn't say in 280 characters or required creating a thread can now be shared via 140 seconds (2 minutes and 20 seconds) of audio. If you're an iOS user, you should see a new "waveform" icon next to the camera icon in the tweet compose window.

Tapping this icon will display your profile icon with a record button. I think you'll know what to do next.

You can tweet a tweet. But now you can tweet your voice!

Launching today on iOS, you can now record and tweet with audio.

Audio tweets, with pause, if you need it

Twitter has given a brief look at how the feature works in the introductory tweet above. But you don't need to record an audio tweet in one go. You can pause the recording, think about what you want to say next, and continue. It also allows you to add text to audio tweets before sharing it with everyone, possibly to give it some context. However, it is not required.

The audio tweet feature seems to be rolling out in batches and not everyone will get it right away. Still, here's an example of how these tweets look and behave.

This is my first AUDIO tweet.

All audio tweets, as Twitter mentions in their help center, include your current profile picture as a static image in your audio. It will not update if you update your profile picture. If iOS users play games and tweet audio, they'll see an audio playback dock — similar to most streaming services — at the bottom. They can continue listening to an audio tweet and scroll through the feed simultaneously.

Audio tweets on Android, when?

The audio tweets feature is not yet available for Android users. They will have the audio tweet to listen to in full screen mode, just like the videos on the platform.

There is no word yet on when the feature will come to Android.
