Pokemon Go will stop working on these Android phones from August 2020

Pokemon Go it remains one of the most popular mobile games currently available. And with the recent changes to make it a lot easier to play at home, more players have started their journey to collect pokemon. The game receives regular updates that bring new events and special items for users to stay and those who left, come back.

However, it seems that the development process for Android is being affected a bit. This is because the game has to be optimized for a large number of Android devices. Getting the game to work on older generation hardware requires a lot of extra work that can prevent the game from running at its best.

Pokemon Go will stop working on these Android phones from August 2020

Therefore, Niantic has announced that Pokemon Go will stop working on 32-bit Android devices from August. In the announcement, they claim that the move will help them streamline the development process. Also, it will help them add support for more operating systems.

Therefore, Pokemon Go will stop working on these Android phones along with many others from August 2020:

List of Android phones that Pokemon Go won't work on

  • Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, J3
  • Sony Xperia Z2, Z3
  • Motorola Moto G (1st generation)
  • LG Fortune Tribute
  • One plus one
  • HTC One (M8)
  • Overture ZTE 3

This is not a list of all Android devices that will lose support for the Pokemon Go game. Any Android mobile phone that has a 32-bit SoC will not be able to run Pokemon Go. Therefore, most devices released before 2015 will be affected by the change. Although, there may be some exceptions. In case you have bought a phone in the last few years, this change should not affect you.

The new update will also affect iOS users who are using an iPhone with a 32-bit CPU. So if you have an iPhone 5C or earlier, Pokemon Go will not run on your device after the August update.
