Direct answer to if it is the successor of the Pocophone F1, NO. Just a couple of weeks after Poco announced that it will work independently of Xiaomi, the company today launched its new mobile phone in India.
It's the second device to launch under the Poco brand, but it's not the successor to the Pocophone F1 that we've all been eagerly awaiting. Poco X2 is a mid-range offering with a Snapdragon 730G chipset, 120Hz display, and a quad-camera setup.
Poco X2: technical specifications and features
In the days leading up to launch, Poco X2 trailers confirmed that it will in India as a new Redmi K30 4G and well, that's true. Poco X2 is the same device, as you can see. It has a glass sandwich design with Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and back.
We expected the rear panel of the Redmi K30 (with a circular glossy camera setup) felt similar to the iPhone 11 Pro. But back panel doesn't have a premium feel. Instead, it feels more like the glass back of the Galaxy A50 in comparison and the feel in the hand isn't that great either.
Turning our attention to the front, Poco X2 presents with 6.67-inch Full-HD+ IPS LCD panel With a double hole design on screen. The highlight of this screen is the higher refresh rate of 120Hz and MIUI, as well as its animations, look smooth. It has a 20:9 aspect ratio, 91% screen-to-body ratio, and 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution.
Under the hood, the Poco X2 is powered by the combined cSnapdragon 730G chipset, which includes a slightly overclocked GPU compared to last year's Redmi K20. This has been along with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded via the hybrid dual SIM slot. The liquid cooling technology (copper pipe) that we saw in the Poco F1 is also present on board the Poco X2.
Corre MIUI 11 based on Android 10 out of the box. This time there is no MIUI for POCO's custom skin, but you install POCO launcher beforehand.
Poco X2 cameras
In the section of cameras, you can see that Poco X2 has a vertical configuration of four cameras with a 686MP (f/64) Sony IMX1.79 primary camera. It's paired with an 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree FOV, a 2MP (f/2.4) macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.
This is the same camera module as the Redmi K30 and ditches the telephoto lens found on its predecessor, the Redmi K20.
As for the selfie camera, the perforated screen houses the 20MP main camera (f/2.2) and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor with a wide 83-degree FOV. Now, I bet you must have already read this, but there are two separate holes here instead of one. This camera setting will help you capture better portraits.
Thanks to software optimizations, the camera app on the Poco X2 supports RAW image capture, Slow motion video capture at 960fps and VLOG mode. The latter gives you a plethora of presets (transitions and effects) to add some pizza to your vlogs.
Poco X2 also comes equipped with a 4500 mAh battery and the best thing is that you get a 27W fast charger in the box.
Poco X2 price and availability
The Poco X2 has a price from 225 dollars to change for the base variant 6GB + 64GB. But you will have to pay $239 for the 6GB + 128GB variant, and $281 for the 8GB + 256GB one.
The Poco X2 will be available in three attractive colors: Atlantis Blue, Matrix Purple, and Phoenix Red. It will go on sale from February 11, exclusively on Flipkart India. Later it seems that it will be released in more countries, although there is nothing official about its release in Europe, Spain and other Latin American countries.
Poco X2 will compete directly against the Realme X2, but your decision is based on one simple thing: do you want a 120Hz LCD or a 60Hz AMOLED screen? The rest of the specs are almost exactly the same, so take your pick. Let us know your opinion in the comments below.
