OnePlus may present its 120Hz screen on January 13

Just a day after unveiling the OnePlus Concept One smartphone at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, the Chinese smartphone maker has started sending out press invites for a new event scheduled for January 13 in China.

According to the company, its "OnePlus 2020 Screen Technology Communication Meeting" will be held in the garden of B.PARK in Shenzhen starting at 2PM on the aforementioned date.

There's no further information on the matter at the moment, but speculation suggests that the company is planning to introduce a 120Hz display that could make its way to the next-gen OnePlus flagship, rumored to be called the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Either way, hopefully we'll get more concrete information about what the company has in store for us next week.

As these types of screens start to become the norm, most of this year's top flagship smartphones are expected to ditch standard 60Hz screens in favor of 120Hz panels.

Various reports in recent months have suggested that the Redmi K30, OnePlus 8 Pro, iPhone 12 and the Galaxy S11 they will launch with 120Hz screens. A trend that started in earnest with Asus and Razer and their gaming mobile phones.

The OnePlus 7 Pro shipped with a 90Hz display that received a lot of praise from the global media. If reports are to be believed, the company is now jumping on the 120Hz bandwagon with its next-gen offering.

The company is also expected to launch a mid-range phone called OnePlus 8 Lite for this year, although it could do away with the 120Hz panel in favor of a 60/90Hz one.
