In the video located on these lines, you can see the news of Android Lollipop 5 in a Motorola Moto G 2013. We detail in writing, all these developments and some more, below.
1.Material Design
One of the most important novelties that is noticeable at first glance is the change in interface, very renewed in terms of graphics, transitions between applications and animations.
When pressing a button, for example, we will see how it is filled with a darker color as if it were a shock wave. Also, if we reach the end or beginning of a list or menu, a shadow will indicate that there is no more content.
Material Design is very present in this version of Android and in all the applications that include this new line of design, such as Contacts, Messages...
This new appearance gives us a greater sense of clarity, with sharper colors, an abundance of circular shapes...
2. New notification bar
The notification or status bar has also received a facelift and Material Design has been applied. If we lower it with a single finger, we will see the new design and that it does not occupy the entire width and height of the screen, only what it occupies.
Notifications will appear in the form of a card and can be removed just like in previous versions of Android, by swiping sideways.
If once the bar is lowered we slide down again, or lower the bar with two fingers, a series of shortcuts will appear to different phone settings and options such as WiFi connection, bluetooth, automatic rotation...
But, all this was already present in Android KitKat and even in Jelly Bean, so what's new with Lollipop here?
Well, apart from the new animations and design, we can see the inclusion of two new shortcuts:
- Lantern: It will turn on the mobile flash to light up if necessary and without the need to install any third-party app.
- Send screen: we can use it together with Chromecast to synchronize them.
3. Recent applications
It has also changed the way to display recent applications in Android Lollipop 5. Now, we will visualize them in the form of a carousel or book.
In addition, another novelty of Android 5 is that even if we turn off the device, this list will remain intact, that is, it will not be deleted as it happened in previous versions.
4. Battery application
Android Lollipop includes an improved battery application with new functions: now, together with the percentage of remaining energy, it will also show us the approximate battery time we have left. And if we are charging it, it will also inform us about the remaining charging time, something really useful.
5. Capture and record screen without root
To capture the screen, it is still the same procedure as before (power button + volume down button), and there is no difference.
It is in the case of recording the screen, it is where there are changes and very important ones. Before, if we wanted to make a video about a game, a tutorial or anything we wanted to share, we needed be root, and many people decided to opt for other means before trying to root the device just to record a video. Now it will not be necessary to be root, and we will be able to record the screen using SCR 5 Screen recorder for free, an app available on Google Play.
Its interface is almost non-existent. It doesn't even take up the entire screen, not even half of it, only a floating table with three buttons that we can move wherever we want will appear. The button on the right is used to exit the application. The center button, to access the SCR settings or options (change resolution, sound source, activate face camera...). The start recording function is intended for the button on the left. Once we press it, it will start recording everything that appears on the screen and, if we have the face camera option activated, it will also save everything that the front camera records, which will appear in a rectangle in the upper right corner.
6. Users
Another novelty of Lollipop is the incorporation of a complete user manager. Although it is true that this was already included in other versions of Android on tablets, it is now with Android 5 when it is incorporated into the android mobile phones.
We can change users from the notification bar by clicking on the little circle that appears to the right of the battery and quick access to settings.
All the users available to change that we have previously created will appear. The most striking may be perhaps the guest user mode. Thus, if we lend the device to a friend and we do not want them to see our WhatsApp or personal information, we can leave it to them without problems, since although they will have access to all the applications, data such as mail, messages, etc. will not be visible.
7. Interrupt Management
With this android 5 new feature, we will be able to prioritize the notifications that reach the device so that they do not bother us for a defined time or forever, until we activate them again.
We have three options:
- Nada: if we click on this option, the device will not sound in any case, not even the alarms.
- Priority: This alternative allows us to select what will make the device ring and what will not. Thus, we can configure that the alarm wakes us up at night but that the messages we receive do not sound or vibrate.
- All: we will find out about any notification that arrived at the terminal
8.Smart Wi-Fi
Now the WiFi connection of the device will consume less battery. WiFi connection times, attempts and searches will be reduced.
9. Better RAM and apps management
We will achieve greater fluidity and performance, although if you notice a fairly pronounced drop in power after updating, you can try to restore it to factory mode, since although all the information will be erased, the update to Lollipop will be maintained and you will have a device like new and updated.
10. Smart lock
Lollipop adds a new utility to wearables, an option that although some already had, we can now apply it to all or almost all Android Wear devices. This functionality consists of being able to keep the smartphone unlocked while maintaining the bluetooth connection with the watch, bracelet...
11. New unlock screen
The unlock screen has also been redesigned, and now also has quick access to the camera and the keyboard, sliding to the right and left respectively.
12. Flappy Droid, a clone of Flappy Bird
It is a hidden game that comes installed on Android Lollipop and that we can access from the device settings. Once there, we go to the very bottom and click on “About phone” and quickly click on “Android version” several times. The Lollipop lollipop will appear and if we make long presses, there will come a time when the hidden game, quite complicated by the way.
