The Incognito Mode of Google Maps on Android is here. After being rolled out to YouTube earlier this year, Google Maps is the search giant's next app to get "Incognito Mode." With this, the company hopes to reassure users about their privacy while using the apps. and services of the company.From android font, sounded the alarm about the new feature and that it was officially announced by the company through a official post on the Google Maps support forums earlier this week.
The incognito mode of Google Maps arrives
The feature is already available on my device, which is running Google Maps v10.28.2, the latest stable version of the software on Google Play.
In case you want to use the feature, you can do so by updating to the latest version of the app from the Play Store.
How to enable incognito mode on Google Maps
Then tapping on your profile picture in the top right corner and finally choosing the 'Turn on incognito mode' option (see screenshots below).
As you can see from the screenshots, your profile picture will be replaced by Google's trademark "Incognito" avatar which also shows Google Chrome's incognito mode.
Interestingly, once you turn on Incognito in Google Maps, it will stay that way until you manually change it. Which means that you will remain anonymous even after restarting the app from scratch, after deleting it from the phone or force stopping it from the Settings app.
However, keep in mind that the rollout only started recently, so it might take a while to reach all users around the world.
Also, it will only be available on Android to start with, before rolling out to iOS users. The feature is still listed as "Coming Soon" for iOS users, with no specific timeline for the release.
