Apparently, Google is testing a new method that allows users subscribe directly to the free trial version of the application before install an application from Play Store. There is a new "Free Trial and Install" button right next to the usual "Install" button on applications selected.
Google will display a neat box below the Install button that outlines everything you need to know about the subscription, such as the length of the trial, the cost after the trial period, and additional features you get with the subscription.
Google Play Store will soon let you sign up for app trials
It is worth noting that the The new "Free Trial and Install" button is currently restricted to a limited set of app developers. Google hasn't revealed the full list of supported apps so far, but from the looks of it, TrueCaller is one of them, in some countries.
The feature is part of the Android Billing Library version 3 that allows users to discover and purchase items outside of the app.
“Version 3 of the Billing Library unlocks the ability for users to discover and purchase items outside of your app, such as throughout the Play store. One example is the new subscription promo code redemption experience”
Said Steve Hartford, Product Manager, Google Play.
Hartford mentions that all new apps must use Billing Library version 3 or later as of August 2, 2021. Developers must update existing apps to use the new library by November 1, 2021.
Also being added to Billing Library version 3 is the ability to pay cash at a local store. The feature will be activated for one-time cash purchases in Indonesia and Malaysia at over 50,000 locations.
