After an extremely long wait, Vine's successor Byte is now available for Android and iPhone, allowing users to create hilarious six-second looping videos.

Three years ago, Twitter dropped the bombshell news to fans that it was shutting down Vine. Becoming Vine Camera before it was wiped off the face of the earth, the service's co-creator, Dom Hofmann, has been working on a similar service since 2015.

With many, many updates and floating around as a beta for quite some time, the service is now available for iPhone and Android in its full final capacity.

Finally! WhatsApp dedicated dark mode added in latest beta update

Like Vine, Bytes focuses on short videos that are six seconds long. But wait, they loop like Vine so you can get really creative with the content you're potentially going to create. Essentially, this app screams nostalgia and the developer isn't shy about admitting it in the description on both the App Store and Google Play.

You can record videos directly from the built-in camera app or import from the camera gallery if you like and then put everything together that could end up being a viral hit.

You can browse what other Byte users are creating and there will be a handpicked selection of content that you can view as well. You can 'Rebyte' the content you want, so you can also share your favorite videos with your followers.

The biggest thing that will set Byte apart from Vine is the fact that the developers are working on a proper content monetization system. The app will eventually serve ads as well, something that will ultimately benefit those who saw Vine as an entirely missed opportunity.

But things will kick off with a pilot program for content monetization, and once it's up and running properly with creators, you can expect the service to be a serious player compared to TikTok, which is currently its biggest competitor.

The app is available for both iPhone and Android and I highly recommend trying it out right now. Even at launch there are some nifty videos you can check out. If you're an iPhone user, you even have the option to sign in to Byte with the Sign in with Apple option, select a username, and then jump right into the action.
