Blokada, Android app to block ads, filters all advertising from your phone's applications

android app block ads applications

¿you want to block ads in apps on your Android phone? Blokada is an open source android application, that can block ads not only in the browser of your smartphone, but in all the applications of your phone. Apart from removing annoying ads, you will also save mobile data, which would have been used to download these ads.

It can also be installed without the need to make any risky changes to the phone's software. However, you won't find it on Google's Play Store as it goes against Google's ad-based business model.

Blokada says that by blocking ads, you can shorten load times and save data, which is limited for most users.

Our test showed that within seconds of installation, the ads were gone from countless news apps or ad-supported tools.

Technically, Blokada works locally on the device as a virtual private network (VPN), through which the data flow is routed. It appears as an active VPN in Android settings, with a small VPN symbol at the top right of the smartphone screen.

Under “Ad Blocker/Host Log” you can see which connections have been blocked and which servers the smartphone apps and services have communicated with (the total number will surprise you).

A free text search function makes searching easy, and the list of host records can be deleted at any time.

If you are not satisfied with the extensive lists of hosts that are blocked, you can also add server addresses to the blacklist yourself – or define exceptions. If there are problems with certain apps, they can simply be excluded from redirection in the settings under "Apps".

Blokada is not on Google Play, you will have to download its APK

The application can be download and install directly from the developer's website. You can also download Blokada from the F-Droid store, but you will need to install the F-Droid Store app first.

Whether you get it directly from the developers or the F-Droid Store, you'll need to tell Android that what you're installing is trustworthy in setup. You know, in phone Settings, look for the option to install applications from unknown sources. you can also see how to install apk here.

Notably, Blokada also offers a paid "classic" VPN feature, where all data traffic is routed through third-party servers, allowing you to completely hide your location and IP address.
