Atlas VPN Review

We have tested for you one of the services VPN most interesting free ones available on the market and its Premium incarnation with its highlights and shadows. This is Atlas VPN, a “young” service launched in January 2020.

After long tests and based on the accumulated experience reviewing the leading solutions in the market, we are ready to talk to you in depth about Atlas VPN.

How do we rate a VPN?

We tell you how we rate VPN services so you can better understand what we expect and why.

For us a free VPN service, to be valid, should:

• do not sell browsing data;
• have sufficient browsing speed;
• if there may be no records.

For a paid service, we expect superior performance, so it must necessarily offer:

• high connection security;
• an adequate number of servers located around the world;
• adequate performance for streaming and downloading.

Differences between the free version of Atlas VPN and the Premium version

As we said, Atlas offers two services: a free basic one and a more complete Premium one.

The basic service allows you to choose between 3 servers. It always offers the usual degree of security, but these are not streaming-optimized servers. Being a free service, the speed is obviously limited.

We like it because, unlike more well-known competitors, it doesn't seem to sell free customer traffic to third parties. What's more, allows a secure connection even in the basic version.

While the premium service offers:

• a much larger number of servers;
• servers dedicated to streaming;
• higher speed.

Is Atlas VPN safe?

The answer is yes. This is a service that offers a good level of security. It encrypts the data exchanged between the client and the server through a AES-256 bit algorithm military level, also for data transfer uses the SSL/TLS based encryption.

To date, the service uses the IKEv2 security protocol; It is a solution that combines security and good performance.

From the point of view of leaks, we have conducted several tests and all have shown that there is no dangerous data loss during connection or use, even when downloading torrents. You are also safe from DNS leak and therefore your IP never shows up.

Looking at the records, the service claims do not save any data that allows traffic to be associated with a single user, and that allows you to keep track of your sessions (so it should be a logless service). According to Atlas VPN, only the data that is used to identify customers who have made the purchase and the data necessary for the improvement of applications, mobile and desktop are saved.

There is also the Kill switch function which allows you to prevent browsing from continuing when the connection to the VPN server is interrupted. In this way, the IP and therefore the identity of the client are never exposed.

Also, for those who care even more about security, there are some utilities available. For example, SafeSwap Servers they have a set of IP addresses that constantly change as you browse, without breaking your connection. These are meant to offer another degree of security.

Is Atlas VPN useful for bypassing geo-blocks?

The answer is, it depends; If you are interested in seeing the US version of Netflix, Prime Video and Disney + with the full catalog, or access limited US services like HBO Now, then Atlas VPN Premium it will surely satisfy you. We found no issues and streaming was easy.

Unfortunately, when connecting to the server, which would also be optimized for streaming, the situation was not so optimistic. Once connected to the server, we were unable to play the content on some sites. Let's hope it's a momentary glitch. Similar problems occurred when connecting to servers in other countries.

As for the number of servers in the premium version of the service, the numbers are certainly not miraculous but at least they are well distributed and we have not identified fictitious servers.

This VPN is really easy to use

Using Atlas VPN is really simple, just a few clicks are enough to download the executable on Windows and Mac from the service website, or the mobile version from Play Store or App Store. Once the client is installed, simply launch it and click on the server you want to connect to. You can download them all on their website.

Usage is really quick and easy. Even if it's not translated, it's easy to get your bearings and everything appears in order. In the configuration we would have preferred the presence of other options, such as the possibility of choosing the connection or security protocol. Atlas is a fairly new service, so we expect these options to be added soon.

Atlas VPN does not restrict streaming and P2P

If you are looking for a cheap solution, which allows you to enjoy seamless P2P streaming and sharing, Atlas could be for you. Aside from the streaming-optimized servers we've already talked about, no premium servers limit P2P. From the tests we carried out, there were no leaks during P2P sharing via torrent.

How much does Atlas VPN Premium cost?

The basic version of Atlas is free, the premium version does cost some money.

Of course, the prices are very competitive. Obviously, the cheapest plans are those that last the longest.

The costs are:

• for a single month of 8,39 €;
• for 12 months the total cost is 25 € (it is €2,09 per month);
• by 3 years the price is only 41,97 € (monthly are 1,17 €) – is one of the cheapest services we have reviewed.

Conclusions

Atlas is a VPN that we recommend with some clarifications: as we have seen, it is very good for some uses and not so good for others, depending on your needs.

The service is young, it is good from a security point of view, but it does not offer a large number of servers and advanced settings are very limited. Thanks to the very low price, the value for money is still good.
