Do you know what happens when you factory reset your Android phone or tablet? To this day, it is very unlikely that you have not heard of the factory reset or «factory reseton Android devices. We have done it ourselves in some articles, referring to the performance improvement it brings and how to do it on different Android phones.
Still, many of you still have doubts about what happens when you reset to factory mode. For this reason, we will tell you in this article what it consists of, all the advantages and disadvantages of resetting and Hard Resetting the device and how to do it, below.
At the end of the article, you have an extensive list with brands and models of Android mobiles and how reset / format them to factory mode.
Factory data reset on Android – Hard Reset
What is it and what is it for?
A factory reset is a full reset of the Android device, after which everything that we have installed so far will be deleted, applications, games, photographs and videos that we have recorded, work files, etc. The device will remain the same as when it was released. All will be deleted accounts linked, configurations, applications y Cache stored in the internal memory.
Everything that we save on the SD card, whether they are photos, songs, etc; It will remain there after the reset, without being deleted, since at the time of resetting to factory mode, most phones and tablets that have external storage, give the option to delete or not the content of the SD memory.
If we have problems accessing the phone or tablet, if we have forgot password, unlock pattern Or the little ones in the house and not so little ones, have entered the password or pattern wrongly too many times, resetting to factory mode may be the solution. How to unlock a cell phone? Let's see how to unlock an Android phone and hard reset it.
This means that it is the perfect solution if we want to give away or sell our Android, leaving it as it was when we took it out of the box, but you must not forget the SD card.
What are its main advantages?
In the process of restoring, as we have mentioned, it deletes all the data that we have added to the internal memory since we acquired the phone or tablet. By removing all that information, you will lighten the system processes and will improve your performance, which may have been reduced by the large number of open processes, applications and games that take up too much space. Obviously, we will also free up a large storage space for new applications or files.
Apart from cleaning and leaving the system like Google, Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC…. brought it to the world, resetting also offers a distinct advantage to devices with malfunctions, such as camera not opening or android process error, misinstalled or uninstalled apps, stop working properly, constant " error.android» the keyboard does not work correctly, in short, when the device overwhelms us with constant failures and errors, that is when the reset can be an effective vaccine.
Do you have drawbacks?
If I restore because we are going to sell or give away the phone, it can be said that it does not have any, since it deletes our data and returns to its original state, like when we took it out of the box when buying it.
On the other hand, if we reset our device because we notice that its fluidity has decreased, the biggest inconvenience is the loss of data, so making a backup of all our data, contacts, photos, videos, files, music, is going to be essential before the reset.
If you have performance problems with your phone, cell phone or tablet, you can consult some tricks to improve its performance without being root, nor do a factory reset on:
reset being root
Another factor is whether the mobile or tablet is rooted. In this case it will depend on whether, being root, any system folder or file has been modified or changed, altered or deleted, in which case, if it is restored to factory mode, it may result in a «bricked» of the device, which can lead to being a expensive paperweight.
In cases where nothing has been modified or altered in the system, folders, files, etc, the reset will make root disappear. Say at this point that each mobile and brand is different, in some you can delete the root, in others it cannot start normally, as well as other problems depending on the way the rooting was done.
?♂️ What “happens and what doesn’t happen” when resetting a phone or cell phone to factory mode – Hard Reset
What happens if I reset my mobile or factory cell phone to factory mode? What version is left? There are many comments and questions about what happens and what does not happen when we reset our Android device. The most recurrent is if, by resetting, you stay with the Android version that you have installed at that moment or if you go back to the previous version, the one that we had once, that was perfect and that after updating the device, the Wi-Fi network stopped working well. or some other feature of the Android phone or tablet.
The answer is, when we restore to factory mode, the mobile returns to its original state with the version that we have installed at that moment, that is, if we restore having android 4.4 kit kat, after restoring, you will still have Android 4.4 kitkat.
Is my mobile unlocked? There are also legion of comments received on whether when resetting to factory mode, the mobile is released and can be used with any other telephone company. The answer is no, restoring to factory mode does not release the mobile or cell phone.
Is my device cleaned of viruses? If you fear that your mobile or tablet has been infected by a virus or malware, the restore to factory mode YES clean that malicious code and makes you free from such threats.
Factory reset, Hard reset on Android 5.1 and up
From the launch of Android 5.1 lollipop, Google presents a protection against the Factory Reset, to avoid resetting the terminal to factory mode in an unauthorized way, for example if it has been stolen or stolen.
For this reason, all models with the Android operating system integrate a new security measure for the user called FRP.
These acronyms are nothing more than Factory Reset Protection, and forms an anti-theft solution, to protect your mobile or tablet against an unauthorized factory reset. In this way, even if the terminal is stolen, they will not be able to use it or access personal data.
Google establishes Factory Reset procedures (or factory data reset) classified as insecure, so that even in the event that a thief tries to perform a reset, the phone will be able to block access completely.
How do I reset my phone or tablet?
The process is very simple and fast: in a few minutes we will have the device as good as new. The location of this option may vary depending on the manufacturer and/or the version of Android, but it does not usually change much.
On a Nexus 6, with Android Lollipop 5.0 pure, we will have to follow the following steps:
- Open the menu Settings Of the device.
- Under "Personal," touch Backup.
- Under “Personal data”, touch Factory data reset.
- Read the information that appears and press Reset phone.
- If the device is protected, enter pattern, PIN or password.
- Touch Erase all to erase all data on the device's internal storage.
- When the device has finished wiping data, select the option to restart the device.
Here you can see how to erase the data and do a factory reset on a Samsung Galaxy S5 or a Motorola Moto X. You also have procedures for many other Samsung, Sony, HTC, Motorola, Nexus and Huawei models, in our article:

[quote name=”Neo”]Very good post. I have a question, if you manually update the mobile to newer versions, when you leave it in factory mode, does it go back to the version it had when you bought it or can it stay in a version that does not accept going back? For example, do you buy a mobile with Android version 5, update to 6,1 year later to 7, if you do a Hard reset now, does it go back to Android 5?

Problem when resetting my moto g2
The problem started when I accidentally removed the sim card with the phone on. That's where the phone was unconfigured. No notification was received. I reset my moto g2 to factory mode the external way, i.e. using the power and volume buttons. Once done everything returned to normal except for the mobile network. Apparently it was affected and no longer receives the 3G signal or the mobile signal to make and receive calls. To fix this I prescribed it once again a week later and the problem persists. I tried changing the SIM card to slot 2 and nothing changed. Try putting Mobile Networks and my SIM company does not appear. I do not know what to do. I don't know if it is bad for the cell phone to go back to factory mode. How many times can it be done? Is it normal that the use and data and the telephone signal have been affected?

There is no limit, anyway, in the life of a mobile, 2-3-4 years, because formatting it 4 or 5 times will be enough, I don't see the need to format it every week XD

If I factory reset my Nokia Lumia 635, is the unlocked lost?
My phone was working correctly, suddenly it went crazy, the unlock/off button only serves to turn it off, I don't get the GSM signal or 4g no signal, only WiFi sometimes gets GSM but it still says on the screen no signal but if I have, I don't know it loads the menu and sometimes the screen goes blank, if it unlocks it stays on but with the screen off I get calls and everything but if the screen goes off it rings but I can't answer. It was excellent and suddenly it got like that. If I factory reset, the unlocked phone is not lost?

I want to reset my cell phone to factory mode... but what I want to know is if the applications that I manage to move to the SD card are deleted... I know that the photos, files, music are not deleted... but I passed the applications from the cell phone to the card to have more space to download more applications... I want to know if the applications on my SD card reappear if I restore my cell phone... thanks
If, when you downloaded or unloaded them, they were inserted into the card, … all the memory they occupy will be there. That is the main function of the card. But the link with the other memories, processor, processes,... data that is essential for them to interact with the rest of the phone, tablet, etc... will be erased. Some, the smallest, simple ones, may be saved. that require < memo, etc…. that do not necessarily require a dependency.
