The ongoing pandemic due to the Coronavirus virus has already caused great chaos all over the world. Now, it has become a reason for the delay of the new emojis that arrive on the latest batch of mobile phones.
The Unicode Consortium has recently announced that the release of the v14.0 version of the Unicode Standard will be delayed by a full 6 months.
Along with all of humanity, the Coronavirus is also affecting emojis
In a recent blog post, the Unicode Consortium has announced that they are going to postpone the release of the fourteenth version of the Unicode standard, which would have included numerous new emojis, in which future rounds of emojis would be set.
As the emoji creation organization relies heavily on volunteers, the current global situation prevents those volunteers from completing the version in the given timeline.
So, in the interest of volunteers, the Consortium has pushed the release of version 14.0 of the Unicode Standard to September 2021.
«This year, we simply cannot commit to the same schedule that we have adhered to in the past.. ”, said the president of the consortium, Mark Davis.
We saw the passing of v13.0 of the Unicode standard just two months earlier and we still haven't received the new emojis.
Emojis in Unicode standard v13.0 will be included with the release of Android 11, which is currently in beta for developers.
So the deferral of v14.0 of the Unicode Standard will not affect the current status of emoji. However, the delay would affect the launch of future emojis in 2020 for mobile phones.
